My Uncle Doug is pretty much the only relative that I talk to on a regular basis. He's my Mum's only sibling and they were a year apart. They were extremely close and loved to play golf, backgammon and tetris together. I know that he misses her very much.
Well, he's a fantastic runner. He is a maniac when it comes to working out and keeping himself healthy. His daily routine includes 10-12 mile runs, treadmill "hills" and lifting weights. He's the most fit 56 year old I know. He's participated in the Boston Marathon a couple times and various other "big" races. I swear, he should've been in the Olympics. His running style is top notch, and he's a huge inspiration to me. When I was running in high school one of the biggest compliments my Mum gave me was that I had my Uncle's stride. :) That meant the world to me.
Anyway, he hasn't been in a race in a while, so he signed up for one in Brewster, MA in May. He says if that goes well, then he'll start thinking about doing more throughout the year.
He's also pretty much my running coach. He tells me what I should work on and what I can do to improve my pace and endurance. It just sucks that he lives 3000 miles away. :(
That's my rave about my Uncle Doug.
